One more day...
The second Splendid Sampler Quilt Along starts tomorrow and I've been hoarding fabrics that I will use to sew my sampler blocks. It's a black, grey, white and ochre (or mustard/gold, I'm not too fussy about the exact shade) palette which is extremely restrained compared to the usual scrappy colourful combos I use in my quilts! My starting point was the Japanese fabric you see in the photo (the second one from the bottom) so at first I also put red in the mix because the design also features red elements. But when I stitched a try-out block, the colour combination just reminded me too much of the flags of Germany and Belgium. Nothing wrong with those flags (even though as a Dutch person I'd sooner go for a red/white/blue combination which are the colours of our flag) but the red had to go. Maybe I will add red accents (in moderation) later on, we'll see... I have some smaller pieces of fabric (not pictured) that I'm going to use and I will be buying more fabric as the Quilt Along progresses.
I bought most of the fabric pictured here online at Miss Matatabi and Sew Me A Song. Both shops have a great selection of fabrics and both ship internationally. Pictured here are starting at the right hand corner:

So if you want to sew along: the first free block will be posted tomorrow, on June 14th (which happens to be my brother's birthday but I think it's unrelated. ;) ) and I can tell you it's a really nice one! The first 20 blocks are free (for a limited time) and after that the Quilt Along will continue with other blocks from the Splendid Sampler 2 book. You can read all about it on the website. I'll keep you informed on my progress here on my blog, Instagram and Facebook page. At some point in the Quilt Along (I'm not allowed to say when it is) the block I designed for the Sampler will be featured and I'll make sure to make it a special occasion for my blog readers!
