Year of the Cat

When I was making the photo collage of some of my embroidery work this year, I thought the Cat portraits really were the most eye-catching pieces, hence the 'Year of the Cat' title of this post. :) While recovering from surgery I started on a portrait of my cat Milo (middle row left), I then made a portrait of my cousin's cat Sambal (bottom row middle) and during the Cat Portrait Stitch Along a piece portraying my late cat Tijger (top row right). Tijger was definitely the hardest portrait to do, tabby cats often have so many different colours and patterns in their fur! It was lovely to be able to put a lot of my cat stitching knowledge, tips and tricks into a guide, aimed at stitchers who want to make a portrait of their feline companions.

Currently I'm working on something completely different. For a long, long time I have wanted to turn my Princess and the Pea Embroidery Pattern into a cross stitch sampler. A little while ago I finally made a start and so far it has been a lot of fun to design and stitch. I had hoped to finish it this year but quite frankly: it's a lot of work and I want to do finish it properly. I have a pet peeve with shops selling cross stitch patterns with 'examples' straight from the cross stitch design software instead of stitching an example... Colour wise it's a must to choose your colour palette for your pattern from actual threads instead of just choosing colours on your screen!

Wishing you all happy and safe holidays and a healthy and colourful 2017!
